Meet Julie

Julie Skye came of age at a most singular time in our nation’s history, in a place that was an incubator for what our country COULD be, someday: Detroit in the 1960s. She was born with an unyielding passion for standing for what is right and fair. Even as a kid, she didn’t back down from challenging the norm. And as a left-handed Gemini, Julie has always looked at things differently.

Fresh out of the University of Tulsa in the 1980s, Julie found her way to the investment industry as a means to build a career that would support herself and her two young daughters. She was first licensed as a registered representative at a small mutual fund company in 1986, where she came to believe that her job was not just to help clients understand which investments to buy, but also to help them organize the “stuff” in their lives. Julie began really talking to people about what they needed to pay attention to and what they could toss out, jokingly calling herself a “financial housewife.”

Even then, she knew that while you need someone who understands financial markets and investing, even more, you need someone who understands your family and what issues and events might impact your ability to achieve your dreams and goals.

On average, Julie has transformed her business every four years. As this industry and our society continually evolve, she adapts along with them, making the necessary adjustments to best serve her clients. Each time she looks at what her clients need—“where the puck was going, not where it had been”—and makes radical changes.

In December 2017, Julie left the world of large investment firms to start Skye Advisors, allowing her to focus her business solely on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. But by the summer of 2020, when the pandemic exploded, Julie found herself shifting again to meet the new and evolving needs of her clients. She began to pull together the pieces of what clients need in this new world, but instead of going it alone, Julie found 5 other colleagues from her First Affirmative Community who were on the same path. From this Master Mind Group, Sustainable Advisors Alliance emerged.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find Master Gardener Julie in her pollinator/vegetable garden or outdoors cycling, running, camping, or taking photos. If she’s not outdoors, that’s because she is somewhere standing up for what is right and fair, fighting for social and criminal justice, and dismantling white supremacy and income inequality. She is deeply motivated to make a difference in the world by her family and chosen community of friends and causes.
